Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking from dawn until sunset.
Fatigue behind the wheel due to fasting, can result in road rage and dangerous driving as people rush to make it home in time. Being stuck in traffic as the minutes slowly tick down to iftar time can be frustrating for fasting motorists, especially if they do not have food or water on hand.
The objective is to spread awareness, among commuters to drive safe during Ramadan time by not rushing home.
Qatar volunteers have been organizing iftar Drive since 2008 under the slogan “Drive safe reach safe”. Each year around 4000 iftar packets are distributed.
Volunteers join the cause during the holy month to distribute the food packets consisting of water, juice, dates and biscuits donated by the volunteers themselves.
